Trips on Staircases During Construction

This mandatory standard must be applied at all construction locations:

  • Where steps/lips or changes in levels cannot be designed out measures should be taken to reduce the risk of trips and falls for those requiring to use stairs in the temporary condition.
  • Consider early installation of floor screeds to landings and/or ensure robust timber infill decks/ramps and steps are installed as necessary. Once installed, they should be subject to regular inspection and maintenance.
  • Ensure trip hazards such as scaffold tubes, props or edge protection systems do not protrude into stairs.
