Safe Storage of LPG on Site
Mandatory - Must be applied at all locations
- Flammable gases stored on site increases our risk of fire and explosion. To comply with CDM, The Joint Code of Practice and HSG 168 the following must be followed.
- Location – subject to constraints of site as follows:
- Avoid storing within 10m of a building or boundary fence, but never closer than 4m
- DO NOT store within 20m of a timber frame building under construction
- Avoid storing on the roof
- DO NOT store inside a building
- DO locate on a hard standing or compacted ground
- DO locate in the open, well-ventilated area and in a secured cage
- DO protect from direct sunlight
- General storage requirements as follows:
- DO NOT store combustible materials within 4m of LPG storage.
- DO NOT store other materials or products inside cage.
- DO NOT store cylinders on top of each other inside the cage.
- DO NOT store empty cylinders with full cylinders.
- Remove empty cylinders when no longer required or hold in a separate cage 4m apart.
- Always keep cylinders secured in an upright position including when in use.
- Contractors must avoid storing unused cylinders for prolonged periods of time
- Provide dry powder & foam fire extinguishers within safe retrieval distance.
