Moving of Excavator Buckets

Mandatory - Must be applied at all locations

  • Excavator buckets must be secured from being dropped or ejected when being lifted/moved. Acceptable methods include:
  • Attached to the excavator's quick hitch.
  • By physical connection to the excavator or other lifting equipment with the use of a drop chain.
  • By being secured to the bed of a vehicle.
  • Examples of prohibited ways of moving excavator buckets on Morgan Sindall projects are:
  • Placing them in a dumper bucket
  • Using the lifting ‘claws’ on the back of buckets.
  • Trapping the buckets against the blade of the machine
  • Lifting buckets within a larger bucket.
  • Unsecured on lifting equipment such as forks
  • All contractors using excavators must have a risk assessment in place for the safe moving and relocating of excavator buckets.
