Moving of Excavator Buckets
Mandatory - Must be applied at all locations
- Excavator buckets must be secured from being dropped or ejected when being lifted/moved. Acceptable methods include:
- Attached to the excavator's quick hitch.
- By physical connection to the excavator or other lifting equipment with the use of a drop chain.
- By being secured to the bed of a vehicle.
- Examples of prohibited ways of moving excavator buckets on Morgan Sindall projects are:
- Placing them in a dumper bucket
- Using the lifting ‘claws’ on the back of buckets.
- Trapping the buckets against the blade of the machine
- Lifting buckets within a larger bucket.
- Unsecured on lifting equipment such as forks
- All contractors using excavators must have a risk assessment in place for the safe moving and relocating of excavator buckets.
